Southwest Water Reclamation Facility

St. Petersburg, Florida

Turning biosolids waste into revenue.

Biosolids are a natural byproduct of the wastewater treatment process. The tons of solid waste, which must be properly disposed of, are traditionally incinerated or taken to a landfill. When the City of St. Petersburg wanted to turn their biosolids management into an emerging form of revenue, they depended on 澳门足彩app for assistance.

澳门足彩app helped the city harness innovation to reduce waste and generate income.

As construction manager at-risk, 澳门足彩app helms the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility’s Biosolids Waste to Energy project. As part of the project, the facility is being modified to include new primary clarifiers and a splitter box, new digesters, thickening facility modifications, a new dewatering facility, odor control and a biogas upgrade system. With the improvements, the facility can produce Class AA biosolids (the highest quality) using a temperature-phased anaerobic digestion (TPAD) process.

Capital investment offset by lower disposal costs.

Class AA biosolids produced at the facility will meet the U.S. EPA’s guidelines for fertilizer and the biogas created can be used to power the plant, however, the excess of both products can be sold to generate additional revenue. Key process improvements will also produce significant operational savings for the city. Rather than creating redundant biosolids management programs, sludge from two other process plants will be processed in the improved facility.

  • Two new primary clarifiers
  • Two new anaerobic digesters
  • Biogas upgrade system
  • AA biosolids produced
  • Combined heat & power utilizing biogas
  • Biogas generated can be used to power the plant, reducing operating costs
